Explore the new NASA Glenn Visitor Center, meet a real NASA astronaut, participate in space-related programs, watch awe-inspiring OMNIMAX® films, and spend the night at the Science Center in a special Space Sleepover!
NASA Glenn Visitor Center
Explore the new NASA Glenn Visitor Center with more than 50 artifacts and exhibits featuring a flight simulator, lunar lander model and the new Apollo Command Module used for take-off and re-entry during the Skylab 3 mission!
Astronaut Appearance
Tuesday, July 20, 1 pm
Meet NASA astronaut and Cleveland-area native Mike Foreman and hear about his exciting adventures in space! Michael J. Foreman (Captain, USN, RET.) will give a video presentation on his latest shuttle flight aboard STS-129 to the International Space Station in November 2009. During the mission the crew delivered two Express Logistics Carriers to the International Space Station containing about 30,000 pounds of replacement parts for systems that provide power to the station, keep it from overheating and maintain proper orientation in space. Mr. Foreman performed two spacewalks during the mission for a total of 12 hours and 45 minutes of extravehicular activity. He will take questions after his presentation and will be available to sign autographs.
Space Sleepover – an Overnight Adventure

7 pm – 10 am the next morning

Experience everything the Science Center has to offer in one exciting night (and morning) of space-themed fun! The Space Sleepover will let guests explore the NASA Glenn Visitor Center after dark, launch rockets, design your very own lunar lander, get hands-on with Strange Matter, our newest special exhibition, and participate in special space-related activities.

Watch Destiny in Space on the giant screen in the OMNIMAX® Theater, experience what a day in the life of an astronaut is like and learn about the future of space exploration.
Hubble- Change Your View of Our Universe
Explore the mystery and grandeur of distant galaxies in the gripping story of the most iconic scientific instrument of our time: the Hubble Space Telescope. Experience Hubble in the OMNIMAX® Theater and take your very own spacewalk with the astronauts that helped to service the Hubble Space Telescope. Meet Eva, the larger-than-life astronaut! Eva is NASA Glenn Research Center’s goodwill ambassador and she loves to meet people! Look for this fun 8-foot tall costumed character throughout the day.

- Space Shuttle Tile—GLSC staff demonstrate how an actual space shuttle thermal tile can protect the shuttle from several thousand degrees of heat.
- Gyroscope—Visitors can try out what it feels like to be controlled by a gyroscope, like a spaceship.
- Lunar Soil Simulant—Examine up close high-quality examples of lunar soil replicas as used by scientists at Glenn to learn about the moon.
- Vacuum of Space—See how a vacuum can affect everyday items and why a spacesuit is so critical.
- Capsule Chat—GLSC staff will be available to talk about the Skylab 3 capsule

- Rocket Activity (10 am-1 pm)—Make your own stomp rocket and experiment with Alka-Seltzer and other propellants! (weather dependent)
- Starlab (1pm) —Watch the night sky in our portable planetarium.

Tuesday, July 20:
- Astronaut Appearance (1 pm)—Astronaut Mike Foreman will talk about his 2 trips into space with images and a Q&A session. This will be followed by about a 1-hour autograph session.
- 41st anniversary of Apollo 11 landing! Happy Birthday Tranquility Base!
Wednesday, July 21:
- NASA Glenn Research Center guests—Researchers from Glenn’s Science Missions division will be on hand to share and talk about their work. Check back soon for times!
Thursday, July 22:
- Picture Yourself in Space photo booth (12 - 5pm)—Take home a free digital souvenir photograph of yourself in space.
- Eva the astronaut – Appearances throughout the day. Pose with our big astronaut character.
- Starlab (1 pm)—Watch the night sky in our portable planetarium.

- Listen to senior engineer Kim de Groh tell you all about the amazing work she does at NASA Glenn. Kim has done work for the Hubble Space Telescope and will tell us about projects she is currently working on . Presentation at 1 pm.

- A guest from NASA Glenn Research Center, Jim Simek, will be at the Science Center from 1 – 4 pm to talk about living and working in space. He works on important amenities astronauts use daily to live and work in space. Presentation is at 3 pm.
