WARM UP WITH HOLIDAY FUN AT GREAT LAKES SCIENCE CENTER

CLEVELAND (Dec. 7, 2010) – It may be snowing and blowing outside, but kids young and old have plenty of holiday fun to warm up with at Great Lakes Science Center this winter. Visitors can partake in seasonal festivities with the holiday OMNIMAX film Santa vs. the Snowman, new Big Science Shows and more.

Santa vs. the Snowman: Dec. 4 – 31
Now showing on the giant OMNIMAX Screen, this animated film tells the hilarious tale of a lonely snowman who steals Christmas from Santa. The story features an epic-scale polar war fought with holiday defense mechanisms like a hot-chocolate squirt gun, giant igloo robot walkers and even a 50-foot tall toy soldier manned by Santa himself! Big Science Shows: Weekends; Daily during Dec. 18 – Jan. 2
Everyday fun at the Science Center now includes the new Big Science Shows. Visitors can watch as Science Center staff perform large-scale spectacles of science, such as sending two-million volts of electricity through their bodies, imploding oil drums with just air pressure, and creating huge clouds of liquid nitrogen that envelop the crowd. Guests should see the daily visitors guide for times. The shows are free with paid admission to the Science Center, and are presented by Time Warner Cable.

The Polar Express: Dec. 24, 11 a.m.
Another highlight of holiday cheer will be the one-time Christmas Eve showing of full-length feature film The Polar Express on the Science Center’s giant OMNIMAX screen. The event will be complete with warm snacks available for purchase. Regular OMNIMAX admission applies. Tickets may be purchased at the box office on the day of the show, or in advance by calling 216-694-2000 and pressing “Zero” to speak with the front desk.

New Year’s Eve Eve: Dec. 30, 7 – 11:30 p.m.
An annual family favorite, this event marks an opportunity to ring in 2011 one night early with a ginger ale toast and big balloon drop, featuring 1,500 balloons. Other fun activities include the indoor carpet skating rink, stations to make fake polymer snow and a hovercraft snowman, an OMNIMAX double feature and more. Advance reservations are required.

Free Tuesdays:
Free Tuesdays make it easy to entertain the kids this season. All youth 18 and under get free general admission to the Science Center, NASA Glenn Visitor Center and the special exhibition Strange Matter on Tuesdays when accompanied by an adult. Visitors should note the offer does not extend to the OMNIMAX Theater.
