As one of the region's leading educational and cultural institutions, the Great Lakes Science Center operates at earned income levels averaging 72%, an unusually high level for science centers and cultural institutions on both a local and national level.

That is why the contributed support received from individuals, foundations and corporations is so important in helping us to fulfill our mission and meet financial obligations. The fulfillment of our mission is increasingly important as it is aligned with today's growing demand for a well-educated, technologically sophisticated workforce.

Opportunites for Involvement

Education Programs

The Science Center's outstanding educational programs have served over 1,000,000 students and teachers. Our educational programs provide meaningful informal science activities that complement formal classroom learning. Importantly, programs and activities are aligned with Ohio Science Standards and Benchmarks.

Three funding programs particularly appealing to donors are:

Science & Technology Education Partnership - S.T.E.P. The Science Center's most successful program, this initiative provides donors the opportunity to provide support in the form of "scholarships" for students, especially those from Title I schools, to attend the Great Lakes Science Center on school tour programs.

Explore The Great Indoors This unique program offers an educational and fun-filled experience after dark. Participants start the experience in the evening, participate in a variety of activities, sleep over at the Center and leave in the next morning. Your support helps to underwrite the cost of a camp-in.

Great Lakes B.E.S.T. Business Engaged for Science & Technology - Under this program, businesses of all sizes can direct educational support for EITHER school tours, overnight camp-ins or some combination of the two.

A number of other programs are also available for underwriting. They include:

• Sponsorships of OMNIMAX® Theater Films & Traveling Exhibitions
• Summer Programs
• Communication Sponsorship -- Annual Report, newsletter & other collateral
