Enter to Win!

Enter a raffle for your chance to take a trip aboard the Paul R. Tregurtha, the “Queen of the Great Lakes,” the longest ship on the Great Lakes. The ship will travel for 4-5 days up to Superior, WI, and back to St. Clair, MI.

One winner will be selected from no more than 150 entries, and up to six adults can be accommodated in 3 state rooms each with a private bath (which means the winner of the raffle can bring five guests!).

Guests will enjoy all meals in the officer’s mess on the main deck and access to an exclusive passenger deck directly below the pilot house with large windows facing forward, affording wonderful views down the deck and over the bow of the vessel. Enjoy tours of the pilot house and engine room to see the latest technologies hard at work on the Great Lakes. Guests may also bring alcoholic beverages to enjoy during their passage.

Cost to enter the raffle is $100; but the trip is valued at $5,000!

Enter to win online!

The drawing will take place on Labor Day, September 6, 2010. Winner need not be present.

The winner of the raffle is subject to approval by the owner of the boat. The ticket price will be returned to the raffle owner should any problems arise.

Must be 21 or older to enter.
Science Center employees and their immediate family members are not eligible to win.

About the Paul R. Tregurtha

The Motor Vessel Paul R. Tregurtha is the Interlake Steamship Company’s flagship. At 1,013.5 feet, she’s the longest ship on the Great Lakes. She can carry up to 68,000 gross tons of taconite (iron ore) pellets or 71,000 net tons of coal. Her unloading system and 260-foot boom can empty her five cargo holds in about eight hours.

Built by American Ship Building Company in Lorain, Ohio, in 1981, this vessel was first named William J. DeLancey. In 1990, she was named Paul R. Tegurtha in honor of Paul R. Tegurtha, Interlake’s Vice Chairman of the Board.

During the winter of 2009-2010, the Paul R. Tegurtha received new engines at Bay Shipbuilding Company, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Her two original 16-cylinder Colt Pielstick diesels were replaced with two 6-cylinder MAK 6M43C diesel engines.
