Become a Volunteer!
If you like having fun and meeting new people, become a volunteer at Great Lakes Science Center. You don't have to be a scientist to be part of our team!
Senior projects are opportunities for real job experiences at Great Lakes Science Center. There are a limited number of openings in our visitor & school engagement and camps departments. Seniors assigned to visitor & school engagement will help greet field trips, move lunch bins and engage visitors in the galleries. Seniors assigned to camps will help gather supplies and pack bins for our upcoming summer camps. High school seniors looking to do their senior project at the Science Center are to apply as a volunteer by completing the volunteer application.
We have volunteer opportunities in the following areas:
Visitor and School Engagement
Volunteers in our visitor and school engagement department engage guests in the center’s galleries including the NASA Glenn Visitor Center, BioMedTech Gallery, Steamship William G. Mather and more. Volunteers assist visitors of all ages to gain an understanding of science concepts by facilitating hand-on-activities, informal demonstrations with our mobile cart activities or formal demonstrations on stage. Volunteers are asked to make a minimum commitment of one 4-hour shift per week for 3 months. Some college preferred.
These volunteers enrich the experience for our visitors by answering questions, providing information and directions, as well as checking tickets and answering phones at the information desk and ticket checking locations. Great Lakes Science Center asks volunteers to make a minimum commitment of one 4-hour shift per week for 3 months. Volunteers must be 17 years of age.
Science Day Camp volunteers help facilitate camp activities and operations. Volunteers monitor groups of campers and act as role models for appropriate behavior and safety. Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age and have completed eighth grade. Volunteer applications can be submitted at anytime. The deadline to apply to volunteer at Spring Break Camps is February 22, 2016 and to volunteer for Summer Camp the deadline is April 25, 2016.
